Located at the Town Hall basement since being established in 1985, the society will have a new home. The Elk Rapids Methodist Church has generously donated their beautiful 1901 church building located at 301 Traverse Street, to be our new historical museum.
The new site, a historic treasure in itself, was built with classic yellow bricks which were once produced in Elk Rapids and showcases the original stained glass windows, tin ceilings and beautiful oak woodwork.
Moving to the new setting will give us the ability to expand and focus on creating the very best museum to keep local history alive.
An endowment fund is being established to cover the cost of repairs, maintenance, utility bills and the expense of converting the church into a first-class museum.
This is an amazing opportunity for the community and the society but we need your help. The move and expansion is a challenge that will require additional funding. We are asking that you share in the excitement of this important transformation with your financial support and/or as a volunteer.
